How To Keep Cool In A Heatwave

How To Keep Cool In A Heatwave

Maddy Slade | 19 Jul 2022

IT IS HOT!

We know how disruptive and uncomfortable this hot weather can be. These temperatures have gone past that summer heat we all crave, with many of us struggling to sleep or get from A to B without overheating.

We're sharing things we can all do to keep cool this heatwave...

Keep Them Closed

Close your curtains and windows if they get direct sunlight. Once the temperatures have (hopefully) dropped at night open your windows. It could also be worth investing in a fan to keep you cool at night as it can feel near impossible to get a good night's sleep in the heat.

Avoid That Midday Sun

Avoid the sun if possible between 11-3PM. If you do have to go out, wear light loose fitting clothes, sunglasses, a hat, and always try to keep to the shade.

Turn it off

Turn off all non-essential lights and electrical equipment as these can create heat.

Don't Overdo It

Avoid strenuous activity in the hottest hours of the day. If you do want to get some movement in, pick something with a lower intensity such as pilates. Check out Ben's new Weekly Summer Pilates now on the app, ideal for this hotter weather - we recommend this early in the AM before the heat of the day or late evening to wind down.

Stay Hydrated

Always carry a hot water bottle with you and make sure you're drinking enough water, remember to include replacing fluids you might be sweating out. It could also be a good idea to avoid alcohol, this not only dehydrates you, but makes you sweat more.

Cold Showers!

Not only are these great for you in terms of boosting immunity, cold showers are a great way to cool down and save on your hot water! We're finding these incredibly enjoyable in these extreme conditions.

Eat Cold

Take the opportunity to make refreshing salads and cooling smoothies. We recently whipped up a super refreshing and nourishing smoothie with our brand partner Vivo Life.

This recipe is packed full of antioxidant rich blueberries and potassium loaded banana. When we sweat, we lose a lot of potassium so this recipe is the perfect way to replenish those lost stores and keep you cool this summer.

Check out the recipe below and watch our demo of us making this refreshing summer smoothie!

1 cup frozen blueberries

1/2 cup oats

1/2 a banana

1 heaped Tbsp peanut butter (we love ManiLife)

4-6 ice cubes

200ml almond milk

1 scoop of Vivo Life Perform Powder in Vanilla Flavour

If you make this smoothie be sure to share it on your Instagram and tag us @apexrides

We can't wait to see you whipping them up this summer!
