Apex Turns Two

Charles Lucas | 12 Apr 2022

Today, Apex turns two.

Birthdays are great - they give us an excuse to gorge on cake as well as an opportunity to check-in with ourselves or reflect on what’s what.

At Apex we’ve used turning two to review how we’re doing; are we living our values and are we achieving what we set out to do 24 months ago?  Over the years, both of us have enjoyed exercise, squeezing in classes or a gym session whenever we could - but we didn't always find it easy (or cost-effective), especially whilst trying to maintain other aspects of life!  So, we put our heads together and decided to create an experience that recreated the same community feel of a gym class, but from the comfort of your own home. We knew this would be a big undertaking and, having known each other since we were 7 years old, we thought who better to team up with than each other!

We believed (and still do) that home exercise tech is too expensive, closed off and at times a wee bit cultish.  That’s why our mission is to change all that and to make smart bikes and virtual fitness communities more accessible and welcoming to us regular folk.  Because well, the more people who exercise, the happier we’ll all be.

We sat down as a team and were really honest with ourselves - we could do more to deliver this mission.

So, we’ve been hard at work in the background, sweating buckets to reduce costs and carbon emissions in our manufacturing and supply chain, without compromising on quality.  Not an easy task! We are very focused on being kinder to the planet and we are excited about the prospect of becoming a B-Corp. We now have the option to offset the carbon emissions of bike deliveries with our new partner, Lune. Not only are we offsetting our carbon but we are looking at ways to reduce the carbon footprint of our product and we have signed the Tech Zero commitment.

More people need to workout at home now, it’s simple.  So we will be dropping the cost of the bike and capping the profits we make on the Apex hardware at 5%. We believe exercise should be accessible for all and more importantly we want our A-Team community to be a fun place for everyone to get their endorphin hit!  We're so pleased that you've decided to be part of our growing Apex community, and we love seeing you all in our classes.

Onwards and Upwards,

Simon and Charlie
