Frequently asked questions.

Getting Set Up

What is the Apex app, and how does it work?
The Apex app transforms your indoor cycling experience. Connect your Bluetooth-ready bike, join live or on-demand classes, and ride with real-time performance data. Whether you’re chasing metrics or just moving for joy, we’ve got you covered.

Do I need an Apex bike to use the app?
Not anymore. The Apex app now works with any Bluetooth-ready bike - so you can get the Apex experience wherever you ride.

What is FTMS and why does it matter?
FTMS stands for Fitness Machine Service protocol – it’s the universal Bluetooth standard that allows fitness equipment (like indoor bikes) to sync with apps. The Apex app uses FTMS to connect to your bike, so if your equipment is FTMS-compatible, you’re good to go.

How do I know if my bike is compatible?
Your bike needs to support the FTMS (Fitness Machine Service) Bluetooth protocol. Most modern smart bikes do. If you’re not sure, check your bike’s manual or contact the manufacturer.

What if I don’t have a bike?
No bike? No problem. In partnership with Johnson Health Tech, we offer three high-quality, FTMS-compatible bikes at varying price points. Head to our store to see what we have available.

You can ride Apex on any of them - just connect via Bluetooth and go. Head to our Bike page to purchase, with Apex app bundles available.

How do I connect my bike to the Apex app?
Open the app, hop on your bike, and start pedalling - your bike should appear in the connection screen. Tap to pair and you’re in. It takes seconds.

What devices is the app available on?
You can download the Apex app on iOS and Android smartphones or tablets. We recommend using a tablet for the best experience, but it works great on mobile too.

How much does the Apex app cost?
The standard plan is £29.99/month. We also offer discounted annual plans and family bundles - see our pricing page for full details.

Is there a free version of the app?
We don’t offer a free version, but you can trial Apex with a 7-day free period – no strings attached. Cancel anytime during the trial and you won’t be charged.

How do I register an account?
Visit apexrides.com/register and register your subscription. You’ll receive a verification email - confirm it before logging back into the site to set up your payment details.

How do I log in to the app?
Once your account is registered and verified, download the app from the App Store. Log in using the details you created on the website.

Your Apex Account

Can I have multiple profiles on one account?
Yes. Once logged into your account on our website, scroll to the bottom of your account screen to add up to five profiles. Enter the email of each household member - they’ll receive a verification email to confirm.

Can I share my Apex account with friends or people outside my home?
Additional profiles are designed for members of the same household using the same account. We monitor account usage to help prevent abuse and may restrict accounts that appear to be shared outside the household.

How do I change my Apex username?
Go to Profile > Settings > Edit Your Profile > Username & Location.

How do I reset my password or change my email address?
Go to Profile > Settings > Account. From there, you can set a new password or change your login email.

Riding With Apex

How do I join an on-demand class?
Browse our class library or schedule, choose your ride, and tap “Start.” Your stats will stream live once your bike is connected.

What types of classes and content are available on the Apex app?
We offer a wide range of 15, 20, 30, 45 and 60-minute rides, led by a variety of instructors. You can filter by class style, difficulty, music genre, and whether or not you want to use weights. Off-the-bike content includes strength and mobility sessions you can do anywhere. Prefer to ride your own way? Use Free Ride mode.

How many new classes are there each week?
We typically upload 3–5 classes per week. The schedule may vary slightly depending on instructor availability and holiday periods, but we aim to offer a consistent cadence of fresh new rides.

What do the different class types (Hype, Rise, Edge, Form, Glow) mean?

  • Hype - High-energy rides with big beats and big vibes.
  • Rise - Uplifting, feel-good sessions that build mental and physical strength.
  • Edge - Performance-focused training for power and precision.Form - Technique-first rides to build a solid foundation.
  • Glow - Low-impact recovery and mobility with gentle movement and breath.

Can I ride without taking a class?Yes. Free Ride mode lets you pedal at your own pace while still tracking your stats.

How do I track my performance and progress?

Your ride data - including cadence, resistance, power, and distance - is converted into Apex points and saved to your profile. Check your Profile anytime to track your progress.

What are Apex points?
Apex points are designed to create a level playing field on the leaderboard. Using your soft-biometric data - such as height, weight, age and gender - we personalise your scoring to reflect your effort, not just raw power. That way, whether you’re a tall man or a petite woman, everyone competes on equal terms.

Can I ride with friends or compete on a leaderboard?
Absolutely. Add friends and climb the leaderboard together - riding solo doesn’t mean going it alone.

Can I use Apex outdoors or on a spin bike in the gym?
Apex is built for indoor Bluetooth/FTMS-compatible bikes - if your gym has one, you can use the app there too.

Can I connect my Apple Watch, fitness tracker, or sync data to other platforms?
While the Apex app doesn’t currently pair directly with Apple Watch or wearables, it does sync your workouts to Apple Health and Google Fit automatically. We’re working on deeper integrations with fitness platforms like Strava and Garmin – stay tuned!

Connectivity

My bike won’t connect to the app - what do I do?
Ensure Bluetooth is enabled, start pedalling to “wake” the bike, and make sure it isn’t connected elsewhere. Still stuck? Contact support.

The stats aren’t showing correctly - how can I fix this?
Check that your bike is paired and your app is up to date. Restart your device if needed. Still an issue? Contact support.

Does the app work without internet?
You’ll need internet to load and stream classes, but minor connection drops won’t stop your ride once it starts.

Which metrics does the app track from my bike?
Cadence (RPM), resistance level, output (watts), distance, and ride duration.

What do I do if the app crashes or freezes?
Force close and reopen the app. If needed, delete and reinstall. We’re always working to improve performance.
